There should be no cackle of voices at your elbow, to jar on the meditative silence in the morning. You must be open to all impressions and let your thoughts take color from what you see. – Robert Louis Stevenson
One night I was sitting quietly in the middle of the night thinking about how to combat some of the negativity and sarcasm that I was reading online. For me, the emotional recycling as a I call it, is real. It’s not enough to wish it away, I need techniques that I can rely on to break any negative thought processes.
It dawned on me that viewing and making art is one way to do this. Being present with colors, shapes and shadows seems to help. Being in nature more frequently and away from the computer, seems to help. Like many I make a living with a computer so I need to spend some time on it.
Maybe it’s as easy as abandoning negativity. I think I am there. Of course I know the “Amount Due,” paperwork will be waiting for me along with dozens of computer generated tasks. I guess I don’t need to figure it out right now, but I know I’m making progress.
